Monday Meter: Losing My Religion

This post is a day late, but I want to let you know that I am creating a new regular feature here on Avert Your Eye.

Each Monday, I wish share writing that is meaningful from my life.

(Also, Part 2 of Encounter with a Proselytizer is coming soon. Sorry for the delay!)

And here are this week's pertinent thoughts:

"Losing My Religion"

Oh, life is bigger
It's bigger than you
And you are not me
The lengths that I will go to
The distance in your eyes
Oh no, I've said too much
I set it up

(chorus)
That's me in the corner
That's me in the spotlight, I'm
Losing my religion
Trying to keep up with you
And I don't know if I can do it
Oh no, I've said too much
I haven't said enough
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

Every whisper
Of every waking hour I'm
Choosing my confessions
Trying to keep an eye on you
Like a hurt lost and blinded fool, fool
Oh no, I've said too much
I set it up
Consider this
Consider this
The hint of the century
Consider this
The slip that brought me
To my knees failed
What if all these fantasies
Come flailing around
Now I've said too much
I thought that I heard you laughing
I thought that I heard you sing
I think I thought I saw you try

But that was just a dream
That was just a dream

(repeat chorus)

But that was just a dream
Try, cry, why try?
That was just a dream
Just a dream, just a dream
Dream

Hey there. I enjoyed finding your blog. Don't know if you'll care about this, but I used to think this song had some deep meaning about faith or lack thereof. Turns out, the phrase "losing my religion" is a southern colloquialism for having a crush on someone. Though it made the song a little less deep than I thought, it made it a bit more understandable. Still a great song.

I did know that, but I still really like the song, and I still find the lyrics meaningful to my life anyway.

Thanks for reading!

I thought that losing my religion meant that it was taking forever. Turns out it's neither what I thought nor what anonymous thought. It means losing control of oneself, losing civility or getting angry.

Better watch out the copyright assholes don't nail your agnostic hide to the wall, TP! They've already overrun U-Tube, ya know!

I never liked that song... no tune, dreary, depressing... if I want that, I'll visit Quiff's blog!

LOL!

Magdalene... it means you're losing your ear for music, if you think that song is good!

Gideon,

It's hardly a copyright violation when I gave credit to the artist.

Plus, "Losing My Religion" is a great song. You just feel like you have to complain about everything, don't you?

You know what? You have horrid taste. You put a video of a woman having an orgasm on your blog, and you thought it was funny.

You've got real class, you know that, Gideon?

"You put a video of a woman having an orgasm on your blog, and you thought it was funny."

Damn, but you're stupid, son! I put that there to show the beauty of a woman's passion... and that something so sublime could NEVER be a product of mere chance, and you, as usual, got it all fucked up!

Why do I bother with such idiots???

Such dolts???

You got hang-ups over sexuality, or something? Sheesh... life with you must be a living hell... I hope you're single!

No, I don't feel I have to complain about EVERYTHING, just MOST things that you fools come up with, because, you're witless wonders where religion and Christianity are concerned.

I'll give you your opinion on that song, because, taste in music (if I dare call THAT music) is a personal thing, and each succeeding generation is becoming more moronic, so, naturally, so is their music.

It's DE-Evolution, on a universal scale!

Gideon,

I am very open to sexuality, but I also respect women.

Ridicule me for that if you want, but it's non-negotiable.

Well since the conversation has turned to sex.
Allow me to point out the song also supports the idea of a man "Losing his erection: Not being able to perform sexually and the shame that comes with that.
Look at it again..interesting,huh?
